Leon’s Full Service

July 20, 2015

One of the best kept secrets in Decatur has to be Leon’s Full Service. Leon’s has it all. They have a great bar, great food and they even have a Bocce ball court outside. If you don’t know what Bocce ball is just google it and you will see how awesome it is! The atmosphere is perfect for a night out with friends or it can serve as a great date night. The one down side is they don’t take reservations, but the good news is they have an amazing bar. They have a great selection of beer both on draft and bottle. For the cocktail lovers they also have an ample selection including a seasonal “Adult” egg nog which is fantastic (and I’m not usually an egg nog fan)! Now let’s talk about everyone’s favorite, the food! You can go with a few different options to start. They have a good cheese selection but the true glory are there Pub Frites! First of all it comes in a huge bucket which is enough for 4-5 people to share. But they are so good 2 people could also eat it :). Then they give you the option of choosing two sauces that are incredible. Some of my personal favorites include goat cheese fondue and the masaman curry. Another great option are there pulled pork croquettes that are to die for! I recommend the burger as an entree and if you get the Pub Frites as a starter I would subsitute the fries as your side for their brussels sprouts. These aren’t your ordinary brussels sprouts, it’s served in a skillet as a hash with fresh cut apples and bacon! I recommend coming really hungry or with a group of people so you can try as many things (or just have leftovers!). I am not a huge zucchini fan but their zucchini sharp cheddar casserole is incredible! You are most likely stuffed after all this food but do yourself a favor and find your “dessert stomach” because they also have a great dessert menu! We have personally only tried the peanut butter cookie sandwich and the Georgia apple crumble pie but they have several other options that looked delicious. If none of their dessert’s are appealing to you, you can always walk around the corner to Jeni’s or Cakes & Ale! Now that you know about this great secret, what are you waiting for? Do your stomach a favor and go to Leon’s for your next night out with friends or significant other, you will not regret it!

Today’s post highlights yet another one of Ford Fry’s amazing restaurants! Located in Krog City Market is Superica. Superica has a nice laid back atmosphere, and has a very similar feel to his restaurant El Felix located at The Avalon. From Appetizers to Cocktails to the Main Courses you can’t go wrong. Of course every good tex-mex meal begins with a tasty refreshing drink. One of our personal favorites is “The O.G.” Margarita which features : El Jimador Reposado, triple sec, fresh lime. We then recommend you get an order of their fresh guacamole and of course QUESO! Now here is the trick, they make their tortillas hot and fresh on the spot so make sure you ask for an order to dip into your queso, it is amazing! Top off your amazing meal with their Steak Tacos Al Carbon. It comes with 3 huge homemade tortillas with several strips of their amazing Steak inside as well as charred onions, fresh cilantro & avocado salsa verde. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Superica is a great spot for a date night. They also have very reasonable prices for the quality of food you get. For an even better bargain they have great lunch specials. Check it out and let them know EatYourHeartOutATL sent you, then drop us a message and tell us what you thought and if you discovered some other tasty items on the menu!

Today’s Blog Post highlights The Optimist. When people think of Atlanta food, the last thing they think of is Seafood but The Optimist has everything a seafood lover could want! The food is so good and so fresh the only thing missing is a water front view but don’t worry the food makes up for it! If you have a love for Oyster’s you will definitely need to check out their Oyster Bar. They have over 15 different types of Oysters from raw oysters to ones from their wood-fired oven. If your not a huge Oyster fan that is okay too because they have a variety of menu items. Our last visit we tried a little bit of everything. But first, let us give you some cocktails to try out. If you are a bourbon fan, then we recommend the Sunset Boulevard. The base of this cocktail is a smooth Buffalo Trace Bourbon with Orange bitters, and a flamed orange in it. If your not into the sweeter cocktails then we recommend the Jolly Roger. It tastes exactly like a raspberry jolly rancher! For snacks we started with some she-crab soup that came with a side of shrimp cornbread. The flavors were amazing and was a great dish to share. We then had an order of the “peel & eat” shrimp that has this amazing spicy “come-back” sauce. We also ordered the basamati fried rice which included curry, peanuts, and an egg in it. It was one of the best dishes of fried rice we have had! To finish off the appetizers we ordered the corn milk hush puppies that were “beignet” style which means it had powdered sugar dusted on top. Powder sugar makes everything better, right!? Finally, we capped our amazing dinner with the best Fish & Chips! The fish tasted so fresh it was like it was right off the water! The Optimist is the perfect date night or even trying to win over a business client :)
It is a very popular place, so if you plan on going on the weekend make sure you get a reservation at least a week in advance. Don’t just take our word for how amazing it is though, go out and treat yourself to this amazing place!

Last month we took a trip to the newly opened Cooks & Soldiers located in the Westside of Atlanta. Cooks & Soldiers is an upscale restaurant that serves tapas and they have larger portions that they cook on a wood-fire grill. The wood-fire grill gave a great flavor to the food! We had been waiting for months with anticipation for them to open up this new spot on the Westside. We like to say “The Westside is the Best side!” Going in I expected it to be amazing, but somehow it exceeded my expectations! It was easy getting a reservation; we booked one a few days in advance. From the outside looking in, it doesn’t look that big but once you get in side you see it is much better with ample seating. Its cool how they have a window into their kitchen it gives the place a great vibe. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu (which is helpful for someone who isn’t fluent in pronouncing Spanish dishes). We went for dinner so of course we had to have a cocktail! Our table ordered the C&S Old Fashioned and a Picon Punch, both were sensational! When we go to restaurants we like to share a bunch of different things and that way we can try a lot of the menu! Too start they have dishes called “Pintxos Tradicionales” these are small dishes served on top of toasted bread. We tried the Hongos y Setas which was topped with coal roasted mushrooms, goat cheese creme fraiche, and black truffle. It was amazing! Next, we ordered “Pintxos Especiales” which were there small plates. We decided to order “Huevos Revuletos” which includes scrambled eggs, more wood grilled mushrooms, truffle and toast. The “Patatas” was definitely the most unexpected thing on the menu, homemade French Fries served with a Idiazabal (cheese) fondue and homemade ketchup. The “Bikini” was essentially a fancy grilled cheese with “Jamon Iberico” which is like a Spanish Ham. The final thing we ordered was there “Chistorra in a Blanket” which was Chistorra Sausage wrapped in a croissant and topped with a cider glaze as well as a maple-mustard allioli on the side. What I really enjoyed about Cooks & Soldiers was that even if you have no idea what the things on the menu are, the staff is very friendly and helpful in describing what each dish is. We definitely want to go back and try more things. Cooks & Soldiers is the perfect place for either a date night or just a night out with friends!

After knowing me for only a few seconds you will quickly find out I’m obsessed with coffee! It’s definitely a necessity for the start of each day, and I apologize if you catch me before my first cup (don’t take it personal). With that being said, I’m a coffee snob. I don’t just look for a cup of caffeine but I like good, quality coffee & if you pair that with a good atmosphere, I feel like I’m in heaven. One of my favorite spots is Octane Coffee, I consider it my home away from home. If you haven’t been, Octane is a community of passionate coffee lovers (such as myself), that serves both breakfast and lunch options, plus they have a good selection of cocktails and beers. Frequently, I find myself their working because the atmosphere is just so relaxing and inspiring (especially for a creative such as myself). In Atlanta there are 3 locations: Buckhead, Westside, and Grant Park. Their staff is incredible in their craft & always friendly. I really like how it serves as an office for some during the day, but at night transforms into a perfect hangout spot with friends or significant other. I recommend you sit at the bar and grab a cocktail before a date night or if you need a pick me up to start your night. If you haven’t been to Octane you are missing out!
